The game is as much canon as any of the previous editions, and while it may be written with a view of seeking a new audience, its authors most likely have a lot deeper knowledge of the history of the game than you do. Guess what? Nobody cried about it then - the core game experience is still complete as is. Just because the new edition is seeking a particular focus on themes and aspects Now THAT is satire V5 AND V20 are BOTH still available to buy. Personally, I find V20 to be a bit bloated with extraneous stuff only grognards would appreciate, cartoonish art and clunky rules. The choice is yours though. Have a better one. V5 is an Adamantine seller and is still going strong.

Brujah are intentionally shown specifically as a clan that rebels against ANY form of rulership that seeks to bind them. This means that its members are of any more extreme political faction, so long as they fight against whatever power is already established. The horror of the game is more mature now in the current edition and it focuses more on the personal battle of fighting against the beast than previous editions did by making using your blood more risky rather than being a pool of precise numbers of points to spend on your abilities. Hunger grows as you use your abilities as a replacement for blood pool , but does so unpredictably, so you can have nights when you are throwing out disciplines left and right as well as nights when just trying to heal a gunshot wound can near cause you to frenzy.

The emotions of your prey matter as well, as that now changes the flavor of blood and helps you See more learn disciplines of related types. Choleric blood, that of angry, violent, bullying, passionate, or envious people, helps you with Celerity and Potence. Thin Bloods can be an extremely interesting story now as well as they are fleshed out pretty well. That said, I will complain about Humanity I preferred it being more concrete, but this allows for a more flexible game. Also, the beast now directly has aspects of your clan and can literally override your thought processes to push your character to act to it. And as far as the Brujah are concerned, specifically, the Brujah are mentioned as philosopher kings still, but as with previous editions, the book focuses on younger kindred who are less likely to be part of the older bloodlines. Previously, you had to know the default sect of a clan in order to properly play cards such as The Embrace, and some interactions were odd. For instance, if a Gangrel Prince created an Embrace, that Embrace would have been Independent, since clan Gangrel became Independent with the release of the first Anarch set in , with no retroactive effect on the printed vampires. In both cases, removing those unnecessary details makes the game easier to play for all players, old and new. Finally, some clan symbols were changed as well as some clan names — Assamites become Banu Haqim, Followers of Set become The Ministry, etc.

These are cosmetic changes with no impact on the rules. For instance, the Assamite clan is now called Banu Haqim, but they are strictly equivalent: an Assamite is a Banu Haqim and can use cards requiring that clan, whatever name is used on the card.
